Game: Heavy Rain

Film-noir thriller Heavy Rain for the PlayStation 3 has leapt straight to the top spot of the all-format games charts. The game’s advert has been all over the media lately, quite different from others, its a compilation of the actual game play which is a bit too realistic. If I was a serious gamer, I’d buy it.

The atmospheric crime-solving video game – which pits players against a serial killer known only as the Origami Killer – knocked last week’s new entry Aliens Vs Predator into second place, the Entertainment and Leisure Software Publishers Association (Elspa) said.

The PlayStation 3-only title set out to break staple gaming traditions such as high-scores and lives. Instead, if a player dies they assume the role of another playable character with their former character’s death written into the plot.

Sega’s all format Sonic and Sega All-Stars Racing was a new entry at number eight and Bioshock 2, which topped the charts a fortnight ago, slipped to number nine.

And even a gold medal for British skeleton bob star Amy Williams failed to lift Sega’s Vancouver 2010, Winter Olympics title, higher than 15th spot.
