Facebook malware on the loose..again

Attacks on Facebook during weekends are unfortunately becoming a trend. For the third weekend in a row users on Facebook are bombarded with messages on their walls talking about “Distracting Beach Babes”, “Sexiest Video Ever” or this latest attack which supposedly is the “Most Hilarious Video ever” shown in the screen shot below.

I know most of you fellas clicked on this and were deeply disappointed when nothing showed, right? =)

well this was definately not the last attack on facebook, theres a new bug running around, this time, it gets your facebook password, and depending where you are located, it can also grab your address.

Once you click on the link to view the video you are taken to a fake Facebook login page where you are tricked into entering your credentials. The login page look like the real thing except of course if you look at the address bar you can see that you’re not on facebook.com. But users can easily be tricked into thinking that they temporarily were logged out of Facebook and to continue they have to login.

The attack then returns you to Facebook, installs an app called “Media Player HD”, and asks you to download the “FLV player” — doing so installs malware on your machine. It gets worse: Depending on your location, you may also be presented with a contest to win an iPad … if you just enter your home address.

to avoid this, remove this link from your wall, and avoid clicking on it elsewhere, if you already fell victim of this , change your Facebook password, uninstall the Facebook app (search for or something similar “Media Player HD”), and run a virus/malware scan on your computer.
